Senior Product Manager, Defense

Los Angeles, CA

Full-Time / On-Site

Apply for this job

You'll be the first dedicated product manager on our defense line: an agent-driven situational-awareness platform built on the same agent core as our enterprise product. Today it covers geospatial data and map rendering, entity tracking, mission planning, multi-source ingest, and predictive analytics that turn many feeds into alerts an operator can act on. It runs as its own slim deployment, designed for on-prem, disconnected, and air-gapped environments.

Today the engineering lead holds both the build and the product. Your job is to take the product side: sit with the operators and analysts who use it, turn mission workflows into a roadmap, and decide what is defense-specific versus what belongs in the shared platform. You'll work between three groups: mission users, the program side (authorization, contracting, compliance), and a senior engineering team. The hard part is making the product feel purpose-built for the mission without forking the platform underneath it.

What You'll Do

  • Own the roadmap for the defense product: the common operating picture, entity tracking, mission planning, ingest, and alerting and prediction.
  • Get in front of operators and analysts. Turn what they actually do into specs, prototypes, and shipped product.
  • Draw the line between defense-specific capability and core platform, and work with the enterprise PMs so the defense product composes on the platform rather than diverging from it.
  • Own deployment posture as product: on-prem, disconnected and degraded networks, air-gapped installs, classification markings, and data handling.
  • Partner with the program side on ATO timelines, FedRAMP, CMMC, and ITAR, and turn those constraints into requirements and sequencing.
  • Run demos and pilots with government customers and own the path from demo to pilot to program.
  • Set the bar for how AI should behave in a high-stakes setting: what an operator needs to see before they trust an alert, and when the system must defer to a person.

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years in product management with increasing scope, including time at a startup or in genuine 0-to-1 ambiguity.
  • Shipped software used by defense, intelligence, or public-safety operators. You've sat with the people who use it.
  • Fluent in the government motion: ATO, impact levels, CMMC and FedRAMP, contracting vehicles, and the pilot-to-program path.
  • Worked in geospatial, command-and-control, ISR, or situational-awareness products. You know what a common operating picture is and what makes one good.
  • Built with AI. Shipped an AI- or agent-powered product, and you reason clearly about probabilistic output in settings where a wrong alert has a cost.
  • Engineering-grade technical judgment: you make and defend technical calls alongside senior engineers, including on sovereign and disconnected deployment.
  • First-principles thinker and sharp problem-definer. You frame the problem before reaching for a solution.
  • An excellent writer. You can produce a crisp argument, not just a ticket.

Nice to Have

  • Military or intelligence service, or time in a DoD or IC program office.
  • Experience at a defense-software company (Palantir, Anduril, Shield AI, Maxar, Esri, or similar).
  • Shipped or operated a command-and-control platform (TAK, Lattice, Gotham, or a service C2 system), or built products that plug into one.
  • Worked with uncrewed systems: drone or robotics fleets, sensor payloads, ground control software, or autonomy stacks.
  • Hands-on with ISR data: full-motion video, SAR and EO imagery, SIGINT, or multi-INT fusion and tracking.
  • Worked with tactical networks and edge deployment: DDIL environments, mesh radios, or compute on the platform itself.
  • Active Secret or TS clearance.
  • Dual-market experience: shipped to both commercial and government customers.

ITAR and Clearance

This role handles ITAR-controlled technical data, so it requires U.S. citizenship. An active security clearance is preferred. If you don't hold one, you must be eligible to obtain one.

How We Work

We write before we build, we keep the team small and senior, and we expect everyone to hold and update strong opinions. Early conversations are a two-way pressure-test: we'll send you a couple of our internal docs and ask what you'd push back on.
