Senior DevOps Engineer
Los Angeles
Engineering – Software Engineer / Full-Time / On-Site
Our client is a well-funded AI startup backed by Eric Schmidt, building a next-generation intelligence platform for high-stakes, real-world decision-making.
The platform ingests and fuses data from satellite feeds, autonomous sensors, logistics networks, open-source streams, and other operational data sources to create live knowledge graphs, probabilistic assessments, and mission-critical AI workflows.
This is not a traditional enterprise SaaS or chatbot product. The company is building serious AI infrastructure for complex, high-assurance environments where reliability, security, speed, and operational discipline matter.
They are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Senior/Lead/Principal DevOps Engineer to help shape and scale cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and platform systems. This person will play a key role in building secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure for AI/ML workloads while improving developer experience and operational excellence across the engineering team.
The ideal candidate brings strong systems design instincts, deep troubleshooting ability, and a bias toward automation, reliability, and ownership. Experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Copilot is highly valuable. Experience supporting AI/ML workloads or GPU-accelerated infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to ensure seamless code integration, testing, and deployment processes.
- Architect scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure, making well-reasoned trade-offs between complexity, performance, and maintainability.
- Drive the adoption of modern infrastructure solutions, including containerization, orchestration, and serverless computing.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) with best-in-class configuration management and version control practices.
- Integrate AI-powered coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex) into daily DevOps workflows including IaC authoring, pipeline development, scripting, and debugging.
- Support and optimize infrastructure for complex AI/ML workloads, including GPU provisioning, scheduling, and resource management in cloud environments.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex production incidents, driving rapid diagnosis and resolution across application, infrastructure, and network layers.
- Conduct thorough root-cause analyses on outages and performance degradations, producing actionable post-mortems that prevent recurrence.
- Ensure system uptime and performance through proactive monitoring, alerting, incident management, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with development, operations, security, and QA teams to deliver reliable and scalable systems.
- Lead systems design discussions and produce technical design documents for major infrastructure initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with security, governance, and industry standards throughout the DevOps lifecycle.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including performance tuning, toil reduction, and process automation.
- Evaluate and implement cutting-edge tools and technologies to enhance DevOps capabilities.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Infrastructure engineering in large-scale and complex environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex or similar AI coding assistants.
- Deep knowledge of cloud platforms, primarily GCP, with working familiarity of AWS and related networking services.
- Excellent systems design skills with a proven ability to architect highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable infrastructure.
- Exceptional troubleshooting abilities—able to methodically diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning application code, container orchestration, networking, and cloud service configurations.
- Experience supporting complex AI/ML workloads, including GPU-accelerated compute, job scheduling, and resource optimization in production environments.
- Strong expertise in CI/CD tools and platforms, such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab, or Cloud Build.
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Datadog.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, serverless computing, and distributed systems.
- Experience with security best practices, including DevSecOps and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
